November-December Art Exhibit: Lindsay Close Wallace
Judi Zalaznick

Judi's Artist Statement: After a hiatus to focus on my family and kitchen design, I have spent this past year rediscovering my artistic voice. I have been exploring a wide range of materials recently. While working with clay feels like coming home, I am finding joy in experimenting with fabric, felt, collage and encaustic.

Wally's artist statement: Collage art to me is a way of telling a surreal story with found imagery. It’s a way of immediately recycling something old and making it new again. The combination of colors, shapes, and text lets the viewer form their own narrative for the piece. The first set of collages I have chosen for this exhibition were created from a stack of Boys' Life magazines from the late 1950s and early 1960s. A welcomed challenge was to create interesting pieces using the limited color palette throughout the magazines of this time period and relying on the unique advertising images. The other set of collages I am showing are a series of postcard collages I have created using a ground image of a certain place or setting and turning it into something new and interesting by just adding a simple abstract shape or other imagery.
